Homework Help and Play with a Purpose

Kids’ Corner opened on March 1, 2011 under the direction of Gary and Georgia Bell who moved to San Ignacio, Belize in January to serve full-time with Sparrows Gate.

Kids’ Corner is a safe place for children ages 6 through 12 to go after school where they can grow and develop academically, socially and spiritually. It is the only program of its kind in the city and has over 60 children enrolled.

We have a Foosball table, ping-pong, hopscotch and lots of fun indoor activities. We are teaching kids to play chess, checkers and other mind-stimulating games. Arts-and-crafts projects are also offered on a regular basis. Homework assistance is provided at each session and is with other children in the same grade level studying the same subjects. Kids are able to study with their friends!

We’re committed to sharing the love of Jesus with every single kid that comes through our doors. Part of our daily routine is to pause, put away the games and homework, and share time in prayer, song and a Bible story.

Many of the kids come from a single-family home supported solely by the meager income of their mother. Kids are starving for love and attention. On one occasion a young girl approached both Georgia and Gary separately and gave them big hugs and confided, “I wish you could be my Dad,” and, ”I wish you could be my Mom.”
